Measure Words

Mandarin is full of homophones.  Measure Words are one way to to determine what the speaker is discussing.

English has Measure Words too, for example “a piece of paper.”  Measure Words are much more common in Chinese as nouns require Measure Words.  In English, we can say “two apples.”  In Chinese, we would need a Measure Word, i.e. “two (Measure Word) apples.”
