All tests are provided by The Office of Chinese Language Council International (国家汉语国际推广领导小组办公室), also known as Hanban (汉办). Hanban organizes the HSK (汉语水平考试), which are standardized tests designed to measure non-native speakers’ proficiency in Mandarin. Ready to take the official test? Written Practice Tests

HSK 1

HSK Level 1 comprises 150 vocabulary words. Test takers at this level can comprehend and utilize basic words and sentences for specific communication purposes, laying the groundwork for further Chinese language studies. The test duration is 40 minutes, with a passing score set at 60 out of 100.

HSK 2

HSK 2 encompasses 300 vocabulary words, incorporating those from HSK 1. Individuals achieving Level 2 proficiency can engage in straightforward conversations on familiar daily topics. This level is categorized as ‘advanced beginner.’ The test duration is 55 minutes, with a passing score set at 120 out of 200.

HSK 3

HSK 3 comprises 600 vocabulary words, encompassing those from HSK 1 and 2. Those reaching Level 3 proficiency can effectively manage essential communication tasks in daily life, study, and work contexts. Level 3 proficiency is typically sufficient for handling most situations while traveling in China. The test duration is 90 minutes, with a passing score set at 180 out of 300.

HSK 4

HSK 4 encompasses 1200 vocabulary words, incorporating those from HSK 1 to 3. Individuals achieving Level 4 proficiency can engage in discussions on a broad range of topics in Chinese and communicate effectively with native speakers. The test duration is 105 minutes, with a passing score set at 180 out of 300.

HSK 5

HSK 5 comprises 2500 vocabulary words, encompassing those from HSK 1 to 4. Those achieving Level 5 proficiency can read Chinese newspapers and magazines, enjoy Chinese films and television programs, and are capable of writing and delivering comprehensive speeches. The test duration is 125 minutes, with a passing score set at 180 out of 300.

HSK 6

HSK 6 comprises 5000 vocabulary words, covering those from HSK 1 to 5. Achieving Level 6 proficiency indicates the ability to comprehend written and spoken Chinese effortlessly, and to communicate fluently in both written and spoken forms. The test duration is 140 minutes, with a passing score set at 180 out of 300.
