Microsoft Edge Read Aloud is a free feature built into the Microsoft Edge browser that reads Chinese webpages, PDFs, and documents aloud while highlighting the words being spoken. Before downloading Edge, you can test Microsoft’s voices in the Speech Studio Voice Gallery. Select Chinese (Mandarin), choose a voice, enter your own Chinese text, and press play.
To use Read Aloud regularly, download Microsoft Edge, open the Chinese webpage or document you want to hear, right-click anywhere on the page, and select Read aloud. If the option is not immediately visible, look under More tools. A toolbar will appear where you can pause the audio, move between paragraphs, change the voice, and adjust the reading speed. On a Mac, press Command + Shift + U to start or stop Read Aloud; on Windows, press Ctrl + Shift + U.
